On October 8, at Gemini at Work, Google Cloud introduced the Gemini agent for companies. The most interesting part is where it sits: the agent gets its own work account, just like a new hire.
A colleague with an address
Each agent has its own email address, calendar, Drive and a line in the company directory. Colleagues email it, share a file with it, or call it with @Gemini in Gmail, Docs and Sheets. It only sees what people share with it, and it acts under its own identity.
You hand it a goal, not a step-by-step script. It can work on that goal for hours or days, split the job between helpers, and pick the right model for each part: Gemini or Claude.
What it means for a small business
For now this is a product for large companies. Google did not name a price or a date for wider launch.
The idea itself already works without an enterprise budget: an AI you call like a colleague. You write to it, it answers, sets tasks and sends a report. Our Mila works this way in Telegram: she sits in your work chat, remembers your business and gets tasks done.
Try a quick test. Write down the task you would give a new employee on day one. You can hand the same task to an AI colleague today.
